The Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has warned the public and electoral authorities about the rising misuse of the professional title “Engineer” or prefix “Eng.” by candidates in the upcoming national elections.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the Board said several individuals have been presenting themselves as engineers on campaign posters and promotional materials without being registered with the ERB, a practice that is illegal under the Engineers Registration Act, Cap 299.
“This unlawful practice undermines the integrity of the engineering profession and misleads voters about the qualifications of candidates,” the Board said.
The ERB reminded the public that only duly registered engineers are legally permitted to use the title, and any unauthorised use is considered a criminal offence.
In a letter to the Electoral Commission dated 21st July 2025, the Board urged verification of candidates claiming the “Eng.” title during the nomination process.
Political parties, electoral officials, and voters have been advised to take note of the notice and ensure compliance.
A full list of certified engineers is available on the ERB websiteor at the Board’s offices on Gloucester Avenue, Kyambogo, including a QR code for easy access.
Registrar Eng. Ronald Namugera emphasised that the advisory aims to uphold professional standards and protect voters from misleading claims about candidates’ qualifications.
